[WIRES-X] Help with wires x and FT991

I think there might be some nomenclature confusion on this issue here.

The HRI-200 (Wires-X interface) needs to connect to either a repeater or radio. Depending on how it is connected dictates if it can be called a 'node'. In this case a 'node' is an HRI-200 connected to a mobile radio (or really any radio) for the RF component. So if a FTM-400 is connected to a HRI-200 to either point at a repeater or be used on simplex it would be a node.

Anyways back on subject, the radio for interface can be digital or analog. This is why if you have a Yaesu radio that is packet capable or a Fusion mobile you can use one of the supplied cables to (and I hate this term) 'plug & play'. Otherwise you can purchase a CT-167 which has the 10 pin mini-din like connector on one end and a fan out of wires at the other end.

Now, if you have a Yaesu radio (except the DR-1x which is technically a repeater) with the 10 pin mini like din then you can put the radio into "Wires-X" mode AND control the radio from the software or remotely IF the radio is put into Wires-X mode interface.

Otherwise no functionality of the Wires-X software controlling the radio can occur with a 6 pin mini din. This is due to the loss of the RXD, TXD, RTS, & CTS pins that are present on the 10 pin connector.

Therefore, in the case of the 991 I have heard that it has a 6 pin not a 10 pin and control is not possible. Once again from what I have heard.

Now as for operation of the Wires-X software it can be done in analog or digital with DTMF, or with control through digital functionality with another Fusion radio AS long as the 'node' radio is Fusion capable.

Just a few other tidbits on Wires-X...at the current time due to the structure of the Fusion protocol a 'node' in either VW or DN cannot be heard by a DR-1x. I believe this is related to the code which prohibits a DR-1x to repeat a digital transmission from another DR-1x. This in my opinion is a good thing otherwise you would have double, triple, or how many vocding things occuring. (One layer of re-vocoding is sufficent in physically connecting one repeater to digital to another repeater in digital. The audio is not even the best there but if I can someday figure out how to daisy channel three together it maybe completely different.)

Wires-x is going to be a huge powerhouse here and for those that are waiting I suggest to do so and you WILL not be disappointed!
